How we pack an Ourooh parcel

How we pack an Ourooh parcel

Packaging

A parcel is not only a way to move an object from one place to another. It is the first part of receiving it.

At Ourooh, we sell beautiful objects chosen slowly. Some are made by hand, while others are selected for their material, process, usefulness and place in the shop.

We do not want packaging to feel theatrical. No clutter, no unnecessary decoration. Just a careful parcel with the object properly protected inside.

The object comes first

Every parcel starts with the object itself. It has shape, weight, edges and surface, and the wrapping should respond to those details.

Paper goods need to stay clean and flat, with their corners kept sharp. Leather needs room, so that nothing presses a mark into it. A pressed botanical needs to travel perfectly flat. Good packaging begins with paying attention.

Soft paper sits against the piece

The first layer is soft tissue against the object. This keeps the surface protected before anything firmer is added.

Leather, paper and pressed plants all need a gentle first layer, especially when they are being sent as gifts. The point is not to make the parcel look busy. It is to keep the object clean, protected and pleasant to open.

Then comes proper protection

After the tissue, we add paper-based protection around the object. For fragile pieces, this means honeycomb wrap and a careful fit inside the outer box or mailer.

The object should not rattle, slide or press hard against the edges of the parcel. There is a difference between pretty packaging and good packaging. Protection comes first.

The visible wrap is calm and paper-based

Once the object is protected, the inner parcel is wrapped in cream kraft paper and sealed with a small plum O.

The colours belong to Ourooh: warm cream, deep plum, paper, ink and a little restraint. The parcel should feel tactile and considered, not decorated for the sake of it.

We avoid plastic filler, satin ribbon, dried flowers and anything that makes the parcel feel overdone.

No prices inside

Many Ourooh orders are gifts, so we do not include prices inside the parcel. Whether the order is going straight to you or to someone else, the inside should feel clean and ready to give.

The note is written by hand

When a gift note is added at checkout, we write it by hand onto a card and place it inside the parcel.

A handwritten note gives the parcel a quieter human quality. It says that someone paused over it for a moment before sending it on.

What every parcel should feel like

Careful, but not fussy.

Protective, but not wasteful.

Ready to give, but not overdecorated.

Personal, but not sentimental.

Packed in Edinburgh

Every Ourooh order is packed in Edinburgh. There is a person at the table, checking the piece, folding the paper, writing the note and making sure the order is ready to leave well.

For objects chosen slowly, that feels right.
