Design

Yuzen-style colour and pattern are worked by hand onto a small rounded panel of cowhide. One carries blue and violet flowers, one an owl among leaves and blossom, and one a calico cat asleep among lotus and plum. The hand-painted finish means small differences are part of each piece.

The sprung brass clip fastens to a bag or pocket, keeping keys close to hand rather than at the bottom under everything else. Three detachable hooks hang from the lower fitting, so one key can be taken off without taking the rest.

The brass hardware gives the painted leather enough weight to feel like an object in its own right. It arrives in its own box, stamped in gold.

Hand-painted cowhide with a urethane backing, set in a cast tin alloy frame. Sprung brass clip. Gold-plated steel chain, ring and three hooks.

Wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth. Keep away from prolonged moisture, direct heat and strong sunlight.
The painted surface is worked by hand, so small differences in line and colour occur between pieces. Avoid rubbing the painting against hard edges or keys.

About the maker
Asakusa Bunko works in Asakusa, Tokyo, applying Yuzen painting, a technique developed for kimono silk, to small pieces of leather. The metal frames are cast individually by a local accessory maker in the same district.
