Five lavender cards with muted red envelopes, small enough that a few words will do. The press has set the type into the paper rather than across it, which you notice with your fingers before your eyes.

Letterpress printed and finished by hand in the Brussels workshop Le Typographe have run since 2007. For thank you notes, place settings, or a line sent with flowers. Inside each envelope is a honeycomb pattern that only the person opening it will find.

About the maker
Le Typographe is named after a small beetle that lives under spruce bark and carves tunnels that look like lines of writing. Cédric Chauvelot, who studied fine arts in Besançon, opened the first workshop in Brussels in 2007 with a single press and cases of lead and wood type. Today about ten people work in the Châtelain quarter of Brussels, among six Heidelberg presses and 800 cases of lead type, and the stationery has had its own corner at Le Bon Marché in Paris since 2015. Everything still goes through those presses one colour at a time and is finished by hand.
