Black Cypress Japanese-Bound A5 Notebook

Small dark cypress sprigs repeat across a warm white cover, arranged in loose horizontal rows. The marks have a rough, brush-like quality that softens the regularity of the pattern.

The binding gives the notebook much of its character. Black thread fans out from two points along the top edge, passing through a series of holes to form a Japanese-style binding that is both structural and decorative.
Material
Natural cotton paper cover, 220gsm, pigment-printed with folded edges. 44 folded pages of fine-grain cream paper, 90gsm, for writing and drawing. Bound by hand with exposed Japanese stitching.

Care
Keep dry and away from direct sunlight. Handle with clean, dry hands. The exposed binding is part of the construction, so store flat and avoid pulling at the stitching.

About the maker
23janvier is the south-west France paper studio founded in 2013 by visual artist Marie-Charlotte. The atelier develops each piece from botanical study through printing and binding, with close attention to natural papers and plant form.
