Five copper cards with barley envelopes, made for the sort of note that travels with flowers, sits at a place setting or goes into a parcel. The format is deliberately short, which makes writing easier rather than harder.

Le Typographe letterpress print and finish every set by hand in their Brussels workshop, so the type sits below the surface of the heavy paper rather than printing flat across it. Inside each envelope is a honeycomb pattern, a small detail that only appears when it is opened.

About the maker
Le Typographe is named after a small beetle that lives under spruce bark and carves tunnels that look like lines of writing. Cédric Chauvelot, who studied fine arts in Besançon, opened the first workshop in Brussels in 2007 with a single press and cases of lead and wood type. Today about ten people work in the Châtelain quarter of Brussels, among six Heidelberg presses and 800 cases of lead type, and the stationery has had its own corner at Le Bon Marché in Paris since 2015. Everything still goes through those presses one colour at a time and is finished by hand.
