A gamaguchi clasp purse from Kanmi in Asakusa, Tokyo, hung on a fine undyed leather cord that slides to whatever length suits you. It comes from a workshop that builds nothing but clasp purses.

Worn at the neck it holds coins, a folded note, wireless earphones or a couple of small keys without needing a bag at all. A tree is pressed into one side, and inside is a pale woven lining. The undyed cord against the dyed leather is the detail that makes it.

Both the cord and the body soften and take on colour as they are worn. Kanmi have worked in Asakusa, Tokyo's leatherworking district, for more than twenty years.

Care
Wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth. Keep away from prolonged moisture, direct heat and strong sunlight.
Do not wash or use household cleaners. The leather will soften and develop natural variation with use.

About the maker
Kanmi began in a home studio in Asakusa, Tokyo, an area long associated with leatherworking. For more than 20 years, the studio has made practical leather goods with gentle, recognisable details that grow richer through everyday use.
